    • MIKI SAJIMA

      Material collage Atist

      Born in Hyogo, Japan.

After graduating from the Textile Design program at Kyoto Seika University,
      she moved to Paris.

Through her daily life there, her values and aesthetic sensibility were shaped.
Encounters with culture, customs, ways of handling objects,
and the flow of time and people quietly inform her current practice.

She creates collage-based works by layering antique papers
and aged materials collected across Europe with her own hand-painted papers.
Characterized by delicate, hand-crafted layers and a distinctive texture,
her work has been featured in a range of fields including advertising,
      packaging, and visual commissions.

Drawn to traces of culture and history, and to the sense of time and quiet forces residing in nature,
she layers these elements through an intuitive, hand-led process,
allowing new moments of time to emerge within her work.
Through reassembling fragments of materials and memory,
she explores a quiet coexistence between past and present.

In recent years, her practice has expanded to include time-honored materials
such as sumi ink, aged paper, gold leaf, and gofun.

Rather than valuing only the new,
she embraces a state in which the old, nature, and the present moment coexist.
With a sensitivity to the energy within this balance,
she continues her practice with a quiet awareness of coexistence.

Materials Used in the Original ART Works of Miki Sajima

      ●Yamato Oil Soot Ink(Yamato Yuenboku)
A traditional ink from Nara, made from plant-based soot and nikawa (animal glue).
Refined over more than 450 years, it is known for its depth, subtle gloss, and fine texture.

      ●Gofun (Shell White Pigment)

A traditional white pigment made from ground seashells.
Soft, matte, and warm in tone, it has long been used in Japanese painting and architecture.

      ●Antique Paper & Lace

Collected across Europe—Paris, Italy, the Czech Republic—
most dating back over a century, each carrying traces of time and memory.

      ●Pure Gold Leaf

Gold alloyed with small amounts of silver and copper,
hammered to  thin layer (approx. 0.0001 mm).
Valued for its deep tone and permanence, traditionally produced in Kanazawa Jpan.

      Materials shaped by time—
layered by hand, carrying quiet depth and memory.
